News Portal's Common News - Writing
If I asked you to define general information put on a typical information portal, what would you consider? Come on. Tell me. Want me to guess? You think of general reports as news that is new and is posted for the general public containing advertising and marketing for people in general keen on books and authors, or, you may think of general news as international news that everybody in the world can relate to. For example, the current oil spill is general news because it affected so many countries, or possibly the past slow-down, since it had an effect on more than half of the lands in the whole world. If you presume that, then you are correct with what you consider general news.
For a much better definition, general news is a sort of news that is written for the common people. This means, everybody can relate to it. As an article writer, it is hard to write common news that is as you must study on matters that not only people in a some area can relate to, but people all over the world can relate to. The two given above are obvious, since several countries are affected. However, it is not day by day that a bank messes up its funds, or when an oil leak happens, threatening about half of the population of the world's marine living beings. So, as an author who is tasked to write general news, you have to think carefully on what you are going to write about, and you need to do extensive research first. This is since your readers is the entire world, there is no scope for mistake, and if you commit one, or write anything that is untrue, then it will certainly affect the magazine that you are writing for.
On the whole, when writing general news, you should be wary of two very simple entities, your topic and relation to the entire world. So, whatever occurred in Hawaii that isn't something most important isn't worthy for general news.
