This New EBook Book Reader From Acer All Set To Join Amazon
Acer, the computer giant., no one's fool when it comes to competing in the personal computer arena, plans to be in the ebook book reader arena later this year.
Acer executive Jim Wong, head of the company's IT Goods division, outlined the plans all through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's offices in Taipei.
The day before Apple's purported entry into the tablet sweeps-a gadget that would serve e book readers as well as others-Wong also said the company will also present "hundreds" of apps online, programs that can support Google's Android platform, at present running on more than a few Acer goods, as well as supporting Microsoft's Windows OS.
By mid-summer, Acer is projected to release an e-book reader with a 6-inch monochrome display, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon and B and N; they are U.S.-centric. In Europe and Asia-Pacific we have publishers to work with, and most of them are content owners," he maintained. Acer should go up against devices including the Kindle2 , Barnes & Noble Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Daily and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-if it emerges-in its sights. "We're producing something, and we will see what occures" J.T. Wang, Acer's chairman, maintained in the report. "We're certain to work moreover in the Windows world or within Google's defined OS space."
